My Lack of Maturity

I'm sorry, it took great strength to maintain my maturity last night. While speaking to a nurse about breast feeding she decided to explain in detail how to do it.

Now, this nurse was about the age of most of my tias (aunt). Shorter, Hispanic woman who spoke with great passion about the subject. "Its just so wonderful!", "your baby will be so much stronger" and looking straight at me "you have to encourage her dad."

So she is answering Belinda's questions when she starts going into demonstration mode. Holding her breast she says,

"Mira mija, your baby wanted chiche today and I told her I didn't have none. So you got to give her your chiche."

Belinda was clearly not as distracted by the word "chiche" as I was but it took all my strength not to laugh. I learned in court to bite my tongue until it bleeds before laughing. So I did.

But once "my tia" started to grab her breast and point it at me it with the same passion she was speaking with, it became to much. All the biting of my tongue helped stop the laugh but not the grin. From ear to ear I grinned. How could I not, "Mijo she needs to go like this you see." She was showing that you take the hand from the back of the breast grabbing the whole thing slowly pushing the milk forward to be released into the baby's mouth. But it was the way she did it. If she would have been a nursing mother she could have gone to a carnival, shot that milk into the mouth of a clown, making that balloon blowup til it popped winning the grand prize.

"Just like this Mija that way she gets enough. And don't be afraid to put your chiche in her mouth. Its good for her mija."

It was funny and disturbing all at the same time.

I'm off to go checkout the website for the organization we were told to look into. The name of that organization: la leche league. Apparently they encourage breast feeding past infant age. I feel sorry for the lunch ladies at those kid's school.
