Day 258

Or at least that's what it feels like. Stella is still in confinement at the St. Luke's facility and no clear signs of when they are going to let us go home. We have petitioned the governor (Stella's doctor) for a pardon, but it appears the application was denied until further notice.

The photos of Stella are on pause as they have been forced to turn her into a bionic woman. After many attempts to give her an IV in the arms and legs they have decided to place the IV in her head. As much as we have tried to make a bow out of surgical tape, there is no getting around making that thing look nice. As evidence that this has in fact turned her into a bionic woman she continues to give the nurses attitude as they poke her with more needles. Generally the deadly stare she gives is followed by a strong left hook to which the nurses respond, "she sure is strong." She is making sure she shows no weakness. Its my belief she is now part of the nursery gang Los llorones. She was inducted after completing her initiation ritual of spitting up on a nurse. Her nursery name: Chula.

As a result of Chula's antics she and her mom and dad have been moved out of the nursery room and into one of the patient rooms where they can "watch television." Personally, I think they saw Chula and I eyeballing the formula stock that was stored right next to us in the nursery. Clearly when we showed up this morning with our lightly filled HEB recycle bags the nurses knew something was up. One of the other babies, Chupi, says she will work with us from the inside to smuggle some across the border. And by border we do mean the San Antonio and Helotes Border of 1604.

The other reason they might have kicked us out was my conversation with the one nurse about unionizing.

So now all three of us are in solitary confinement. No more gossip from the nurses or sounds of crying babies. (Which for the record does become more tolerable once you have your own child.) To make matters worse they put us in a room with a view. While it sounds nice it could qualify as cruel and unusual punishment.

If you look into the distance you can see our neighborhood. When we left Wednesday to the hospital we had already spent days getting everything perfect. All her clothes was washed, her toys assembled, her mobile mobilized, and diapers ready for use. Little did we know.

Despite the situation about being stuck in a hospital and not taking Stella (aka Chula) home, the nurses are telling us she is in great condition. No more fevers. She is eating great. She is very alert and curious. Lastly, the cultures have come back negative for any infection at this point. With that said, we both will stay here as long as it takes to make sure our baby is doing well.

Thank you for all your prayers I do believe they are working.
