Since the beginning, people have always told me, "Oh they grow up so fast!"
And since the beginning I have always had my set response, "Not fast enough!"
For me, it’s been hard not being able to communicate with Stella. I know y'all have heard me talk about it. About how I wish I could understand what she wants and needs but all I get is grunts and yelps. Sure I talk to her all the time. Generally her response is a stare or a smile. It's just not the, "Wow dad that is a truly profound realization you have come to. I would tend to agree with you on that."
So most days I cant wait to take Stella to Lowe's and participate in the kids classes where you build bird houses and all the kids get little blue aprons with their names on them. I also can't wait until she is old enough so we can go to Sea World and she can be amazed by the many sights and not just want to eat everything.
I especially can't wait for the ability for her to be able to participate in two of my favorite activities: running and going to the movies. As much as I want to take Stella to see all the great movies that have come out I know I would be that person in the back of the theater trying to rock their kid into a deep sleep or stop the crying while everyone is looking back trying to find the person who brought an infant to the movies. Yeah, I won't be doing that. Movies are too expensive to ruin them for everyone that way.
As for running, I think it will be a great time to put her into a running stroller and just go for a good run with her in tow. According to the baby authorities you shouldn't put kids younger than a year in those strollers as sudden movement and stopping can be dangerous. OK. Fine. I get it. No running with Stella for another four months, and then when its gonna be safe enough to do so, it’s going to be too cold to do it anyway.
However, it didn't stop me from getting excited seeing that Mom dressed Stella up in what I think is her best outfit yet.
She is sporting her running shoes, some running shorts and a baby version of technical t-shirt. Awesome!
So with all that said, today I came to a funny realization.
I attended an event for work at a local school that was celebrating its accomplishments over the past year. They played a video highlighting the accomplishments of the kids from kindergarten to high school. They started with kids learning to color and make arts and crafts. Then they had kids at a spelling bee and at different science fairs, and then they had kids at their graduation and going on school trips to visit different colleges.
I sat there and as I saw these photos of kids getting older and older right before my eyes I realized,
"Man, they grow-up so fast."
