Anyway, we started our holiday with church. I knew that we would not be making it to church on Sunday so I pushed to attend mass on Thursday. Easter Sunday mass is always an event to attend so I knew that to take Stella to church for the first time on Easter would be a lot of variables all leading to a quick melt down. The decision was made to attend mass on Thursday to beat the crowds and slowly work our way into the infamous "cry room." I had always seen the "cry room" but never attended mass in the cry room. I once again will admit that I often use to wonder why certain parents were not taking full advantage of the cry room seeing as how their child was.........crying.
When we drove up to church there was not a parking spot around. Who knew half of San Antonio had the same idea as us. I mean, granted I do believe it is a holy day of obligation but now a days most people are fair weather Catholics. Guess I was wrong. I dropped the gang off at the front of the church and went to park the car. I walked into the church and saw in the sea of people Belinda, standing in an aisle, waiting to walk to our seats. She had situated us midway down the isle. She thought the people on the edge were going to slide in, but instead they stood so we could sit in the middle of the pew.
I'm thinking, who the? What the? What happened to the "cry room." We can't be those parents who disrupt the mass with a child crying. I spent the whole mass at the edge of my seat. I know the sermon was about the washing of the feet, but aside from that I spent the rest of my time staring at Stella waiting for the loud scream. Each time she yawned I sprung into action thinking it was a cry. I was like a secret service agent. I had planned every possible escape scenario for every possible situation given in the congregation was kneeling, standing or sitting.
Wouldn't you know it.....not a peep. She stared at everyone half the time and then fell asleep the rest. It was a Christmas miracle. Sorry, I mean Easter miracle.
The next thing we did was take her to meet the Easter bunny. She did good seeing as how she had no idea what was going on. It was amazing that we were in the mall standing in line and not once did Belinda want to go shopping. We just stood there with all the other excited parents (insert sarcasm here) waiting in line for a bunny that caused more tears than smiles. i couldn't help by notice all the parents who kept fixing their child's clothes or combing their hair only to have their work undone. Just as soon as they sat the kid on the lap of the bunny. BAMM! Arm's flaring and tears falling. It looked more like torture than a pleasant experience. None the less Stella was too small to cry so she did what she always does when a camera comes out. She went stoic.
On Easter Sunday we had family over and I got to break in my new BBQ pit. There were rumblings about the chicken being finished off in the oven, but that's just how Tyler Florence does it on the food network. Aside from that we had a great time having everyone over and hosting people for the first time. I told Belinda that this was the way I always thought it would be. I always enjoy having family and friends around so if you'rr in the area please let us know.
Stella got her Easter dress. She looked as cute as can be. I know Belinda said there was a name for this style of dress but I just referred to it as fluffy. There were no complainants about the dress only complements except for the one point where she got lost and we could not find her in the thing. Once we pulled her out, she was all smiles.
