Getting Closer!

Well, this weekend we packed our hospital bags and made sure everything was a go. Belinda met with her doctor last week and he told her that everything was progressing along and we are getting close to the big day. It was at this point that I know I had a large dose of reality set in.

We are going to be parents?!?

It seems it was easier as a child to point a finger at our parents and say all the things we would do differently. We were "back seat drivers" who thought we knew the faster route, the appropriate speed to travel, and exactly which direction we needed to go. And it seems that somewhere in the teenage years I convinced myself that I stole the keys from my parents and have been driving the open road never looking back.

As we get closer to the big day I have this image in my mind's eye of my parents giving me the keys to the car and saying, "Here. Now it is your turn to take the wheel." (True to form, I think my mom would have said, "Now you will see what its like for your child to stay out until 4 am and not call and let you know where she is.)

The timing feels right to say thank you to our parents. I speak about both our parents, even though I have not known the Chapa's very long I know they did for their daughter all the same things my parents did for me. Our parents didn't stop at giving us just what we needed and they didn't stop us from reaching for things that seemed to be out of reach. They encouraged us and made us believe anything was possible and all things were attainable. They showed us love despite the fact we made their lives difficult by staying out until 4am never calling to say everything was OK. They made it seem easy. They made it with far less than what they have now. And they put our lives above theirs.

We promise to drive carefully and keep our eyes on the road. Above all we promise to make sure and not get pulled over by the cops.

We love y'all very much and thank you for everything.
